Clarendon scholarship by Oxford University is a fully-funded PhD scholarship awarded on the basis of academic excellence and potential across all degree-bearing subjects at the graduate level at the University of Oxford. Clarendon scholarship is awarded to 140 new scholars every year.

It is one of the most highly competitive scholarships with no restrictions on nationality, ordinary residence or field of studies. It requires no separate scholarship application when you apply for your course admission by the January or December deadline – whichever is relevant to your course.

What Does Clarendon Scholarship By Oxford University Cover?

1. Clarendon scholarship covers full tuition – college fees inclusive.

2. An annual grant to cover the cost of living:

• Full-time course scholars – at least £15,009
• Part-time DPhil scholars – at least £2,502
• Part-time Maser’s scholars – at least £5,003. *Grants amounts are liable to change.*

Scholars on the part-time courses will also receive a study support grant to assist with non-fee costs.

The scholarship covers the full period for which you are liable to pay fees to the school. That is the same as the length of your chosen course.

Eligibility Criteria For Clarendon Scholarship By Oxford University

1. Required Language: English

2. Applicants for graduate studies at Oxford University are eligible to apply.

3. Applicants for the degree-bearing courses at the graduate level are eligible. Postgraduate certificate or diploma courses are not eligible.

4. Candidates applying for a new start of a new master’s or DPhil course at the University of Oxford are eligible. This includes students who are currently studying for a master’s degree but re-applies for a DPhil [he/she will receive funding for the DPhil.

How To Apply For The Clarendon Scholarship By Oxford University

If you apply for a full-time or part-time master’s or DPhil course at the University of Oxford by the January deadline for your course, you are automatically considered for a Clarendon scholarship by Oxford University. No need for a separate scholarship application, however, there are some points  you must know about the selection criteria of the Clarendon Scholarship

1. Apply early by the relevant deadline for your course to be considered for a Clarendon scholarship. Your application will b considered by the academics working in your proposed field of study, assessing your academic quality and suitability.

2. The academic board makes the final decision on your graduate place and notifies you of an outcome. Check the decision timeline for more details on this.

3. In this same line, the academics determine who to nominate to the division for the Clarendon scholarship based on selection criteria.

4. The University’s academics division and the Department For Continuing Education meet in February or March to review the departmental scholarship nominations.  The divisions assess the nominations based on their academic merit and future potential and the top-ranked nominees within the division are shortlisted for Clarendon.

5. Shortlisted applicants are contacted by the Clarendon Fund Administrator and a scholarship offer letter is provided.

6. Upon acceptance of the offer, your funding is secure as long as you meet the conditions of your offer of a place to study at the University Of Oxford.

7. All successful Clarendon applicants are then contacted via email. The majority of the offers are sent out by early April of every year. Note that failure to receive a mail from the Clarendon awards by June means your Clarendon scholarship hunt has been unsuccessful.

8. There may be late nominations during the summer period if some nominated students withdraw. But this happens once a million times.
