The Speaker of the 8th Parliament, Alban Bagbin has revealed that he had no intentions of running for MP once more.
Instead, he was focused on an Institute of Parliamentary Affairs Africa, a democracy group he established when it struck him that he could become the Speaker of Parliament. Thus, he is immensely grateful to his party members for electing him.
In a symposium held by the National Democratic Congress(NDC) in honor of Flt. Jerry John Rawlings, Alban Bagbin said to former president Mahama, “I couldn’t sleep, but some spirit descended on me that I was going to win. That was why that day I promised you that we will win this battle.”
“The God who started it all will accomplish it,” he continued.
On January 7, 2021, a night of chaos in the Parliament House, Bagbin was elected as Speaker of the 8th Parliament, beating Prof. Aaron Mike Ocquaye, his predecessor and former MP for Dome Kwabenya.
