Ethnocentric Textbooks And Others Are Grand Agendas Of Akuffo Addo And The NPP

Youth Activist and Policy Analyst Eric Edem Agbana, a known member of the National Democratic Congress has attributed the recent tribal bigotry in some published textbooks meant for basic school pupils to an alleged agenda by the New Patriotic Party to distort the history of Ghana.

He touched on some recent ugly policies and amendments which the ruling government led by President Nana Addo Dankwah Akuffo Addo tried exerting and has exerted on Ghanaians.

Edem Agbana leads the attacked tribe – ewes – by a social media agenda #BurnTheBooks to get rid of the said books of the system.

He also queried why these unpalatable policies has emerged only under the NPP Nana Akuffo Addo-led regime. Read below;

Sheer Hypocrisy – the NPP has released a statement pretending to condemn the bigoted textbooks that are in circulation. It is like a prostitute condemning the brothel – they operate from there.

Regrettably, where we are today is as a result of a grand agenda by President Akufo-Addo and his NPP to distort our history , and entrench their skewed narrative on our children.

It started with the so called lectures which sought to elevate the role of JB DANQUAH in Ghana’s independence struggle.

They continued with the introduction of the Public Holidays Amendment Bill, 2018. With their rubber stamp majority at the time, they successfully changed our Founder’s day from September 21 (Nkrumah’s birthday) , to August 4th (the day the UGCC was formed).

They proceeded with an agenda to change our curriculum, to cement the agenda of pushing toxic information into our educational space.

They attempted smuggling in, Comprehensive Sexuality Education, which was resisted by various stakeholders.

They moved on to history books describing Osagyefo Kwame Nkrumah as a dictator. Very Few people raised their voice against it so they succeeded.

Then comes the stereotypical publications. Multiple textbooks, all based on the new syllabus had very insidious profiling of some ethnic groups, especially the Ewes.

We are all outraged, and passionately fighting against it.

The #BurnTheBooks campaign is well patronized and the government is embarrassed by the fact that they have been badly exposed. They are all trying to push the blame to NaCCA alone. Smh.

I have a few questions for the NPP and the hypocrites who are NOT happy that we are drawing in the president.

1. Why is it the case, that these bigoted textbooks are only coming out under H.E Nana Akufo-Addo. ? Is it the first time we are changing our syllabus?

2. Is NaCCA not a government institution with their leadership appointed by the president?

3. When NDC was in power, everything that happens in any of the state institutions was attributed to JM, but you think Nana Addo doesn’t bear ultimate responsibility ?

4. Why is the government failing to SANCTION the publishers, if indeed the publishers acted without approval ?

We know President Akufo-Addo and the NPP. We saw what they did in Banda during the last voter registration.

Everyone is welcomed on board the fight for #BurnTheBooks but certainly, the NPP cannot pretend to be victims…

The bigotry is a product of a political process, don’t be deceived.
