COVID-19: Madagascar Presdent Fires At Corona Tonic Critics

President Andry Rajoelina of Madagascar has hit back at critics of Covid-Organic saying the criticism is a sign of the West’s condescending attitude towards Africa.

The World Health Organization (WHO) has warned against using untested remedies. Mr Rajoelina’s tonic has not gone through clinical trials.

The African Union has also said it wanted to see the scientific data on the “safety and efficacy” of the product, known as Covid-Organics.

In an interview with France News Channel France24, President Andry Rajoelina said ” If it is was an European country that actually discovered this remedy, would there be so much?,  l don’t think so”.

Madagascar recorded 193 cases with no death before launching the locally produced tonic which apparently help in reducing the cases and no more new cases in three weeks.

Despite the reservations, several African countries, including Nigeria, Guinea-Bissau, Equatorial Guinea and Liberia, have already ordered Covid-Organics, which is produced from the artemisia plant – the source of an ingredient used in a malaria treatment – and other Malagasy plants.

World Health Organization ( W.H.O ) has released a statement saying Africans deserve access to medicines that have gone though proper trials even if they are derived traditionally.

In the TV interview, the Madagascar President stated ” African doctors …. should not be underestimated”
