Ghana schools continue recording increasing numbers of COVID-19 cases after just reopening few weeks ago.
One of the biggest news in the fight against COVID-19 in Ghana is the report that some students in the just reopened Senior High Schools have tested positive to the virus.
It all began with the reports that Accra Girls Senior High School has 6 confirmed cases of the COVID-19 among the students.
Since then, there have been 13 additional senior high schools confirming the cases through the Ghana Education Service.
Below is the list of schools with confirmed Coronavirus cases:
1. Accra Girls Senior High School – 8 cases (6 students, a teacher, and spouse)
2. Odorgonno SHS – 2 cases
3. Konongo Wesley SHS – 3
4. Mfantsiman SHS – 2 cases
5. Mawuli SHS -3 cases
6. Mawuko Girls SHS – 1 case
7. Bishop Herman College – 2 cases
8. Dabala Technical School – 3 cases
9. Archbishop Porter Girls – 1 case
10. Ahantaman Girls – 1 case
11. Diabene SHS – 1 case
12. Adiembra SHS – case
13. Nsein SHS – 8 cases
14. Suhum Senior High Technical School (STHS) – 1 case.
Speaking with the media, the Volta Regional Minister, Dr. Archibald Yao Letsa said the situation is under control and asked parents, students as well as teachers to remain calm.
“Since they have been taken out of their schools, they cannot spread the virus and so there is no cause for panic,” said.
The Volta Regional Director of Education, Madam Enyonam Afi Amafuga, said despite the cases classes were still in progress in the schools.
“We are gathering data on the situation on the ground from the schools, and what we need is a continuous supply of Personal Protective Equipment (PPEs) to the schools to ensure that they do not run out at any time,” she said.
