Depression is something no one should pray upon somebody, not even your worse enemy. It can make your world turn upside down within a short period.
I will be fusing this little write-up with personal experience when l was in high school when all this seems to be cracking down on me at a point in time.
If you ever wondered what depression is, it is just simple as a mood disorder. And it is very important to note that feeling down at times is normal in life because sad things happen to people. But when you feeling upset, hopeless, and frustrated on regular basis, you may be dealing with depression.
And how would you know, you are dealing with depression? The first to look at is when you gradually losing interest in those daily activities that give you joy or keeps you happy.
The ability to identify depression at this stage is very faint. And it may not be depression at this stage just as it may be.
You will feel like keeping all talks to yourself because your friends don’t pay attention to you that much while they do. You will be thinking even if l speak about it, who will help me or what will they offer me to help? Doing everything will look stressful. ( This is my personal experience ).
The second point is you will be feeling like nothing is working again and will never work. At this point what the mind suggests is to get yourself higher on something to forget the situation at hand. This has led many to addictions of various degrees which you will later fight to free yourself from.
Now, what l suggest as the first tip of avoiding depression is, boosting your self-esteem at that particular moment you see yourself at symptoms number 1.
What this simply means is creating that big respect for yourself and seeing your worth. Let’s say, you are broke and the depression is trying to set in, just imagine yourself in the future after going through all these hustles. A man of higher social status. Wealthy man.
Another thing you can do is start exercising more than you use to. If you don’t exercise at all, this is the time you have to start. Just shift your attention from the weakness trying to break into your system ( mind ) by finding yourself engaged in something that gives you more energy or requires more attention from you at the same time giving you peace.
My third point is trying to speak to someone who will give you more attention, someone that will easily understand the situation. Hence helping you out of it. These mostly are lovers or besties.
The final point will be to visit a therapist or a doctor for proper counseling and education. I didn’t go this far because the above two worked for me. However, people get to some dangerous point of depression that will request of them to be sent to the hospital. At this stage, don’t hide anything from the specialist who attends to you because this may be your last refuge and if it fails. Only God knows what could happen – perhaps a miracle.
