Sadio Mane Wins African Player Of The Year Award.

Senegalese and Liverpool attacker has merged at the top of the list made up of Mohammed Salah and Riyad MahreZ to win the prestigious Confederation Of African Football [ CAF ] Player Of The Year award.

This season has been so far the best for Mane both at the club and international level after he was spotted as one of the favourites on the Ballon D’Or nominees which obviously couldn’t go his direction but it must a prayer come through for the player.

His achievements during last season and this season merited him the award; sharing the golden boot with teammate Mo Salah and Pierre Aubameyang with 22 goals in the English Premier League last season, pushing his country to the African Cupfinals where they lost to Algeria.

He also played major roles in Liverpool’s Champions League, Super Cup and Club World Cup victories.

5 Things You Don’t Know About Sadio Mane.

Sadio Mane is a Senegalese international footballer who plays for Liverpool in England. Apart from that what else do you know about the playmaker?

Here are some few things we found out about him.

  1. His parents don’t want him to be a footballer.

Mane grew up in Sedhiou in Senegal, a township where there has never been a professional footballer. Playing football was like wasting of time for Mane’s parents so they want him to be a teacher. He travelled from his village to Dakar [ the capital of Senegal] alone for trials. His parents brought him back but he already got a spot in the football academy.

“.. they thought football was a waste of time and I’d never succeed at it. l always said: this is the only job that will enable me to help you. And l think l have a chance to become a footballer..

2. He scored the fastest hat trick in premier league history.

Mane holds the record of scoring the fastest premier league hat trick when he scored 3 goals in 2 m 53 sec. for Southampton against Aston Villa in 2015.

3. He has only two heroes in football.

He saw the first one 2002 when his country reach their first ever world cup. And the person is Alhaji Diouf. Diouf also played for Liverpool after that tournament, so maybe Mane is imitating the steps of his heroes.

The second one is the Brazilian star Ronaldinho. Mane claims when he was growing up in Senegal, people call him Ronaldinho  due to his skills and ability to control the ball.

‘… both were great players and l was always watching them when l could. they were both very passionate players, skillful players who always had smiles on their faces’

4. His favourite club was Olympic Marseille.

‘..most of times l was watching the french league because at the time, l loved Marseille. Marseille was my club. And sometimes l watch the premier league and the champions league.

Meanwhile, right now the club becoming everyone’s favourite is Liverpool because of Mane. ‘…In Senegal now, we all support Liverpool. We are very proud of Sadio being here and beating all the records, doing fantastically well. 

5. He hates playstation.

According to Sadio Mane, playing playstation is a total waste of time , at his leisure times, he sits and relax his body whiles watching Game of Thrones. “.. l never like it, l’ve never played it. I think it’s something that waste your time. l don’t want to lose mine for nothing. “

“… ln addition, l give 70 euros per month to all people in a very poor region of Senegal which contributes to their family economy”

He is also a bad cook, he can only prepare porridge so he has a cook from Poland.
