The trial of the 14 persons alleged to have murdered Major Maxwell Adam Mahama is expected to resume on November 19, 2020, at the Accra High Court.
The trial has been on hold since March this year due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and was expected to resume last Thursday, but was adjourned.
the next hearing, a video detailing the ‘gruesome’ killing of the military officer is expected to be played in court as evidence to buttress the case of the prosecution.
The prosecution, led by a Chief State Attorney, Ms Evelyn Keelson, is expected to bring its case to a close.
Witnesses
All the 14 witnesses that the prosecution intended to use to make a strong case have testified before the court, presided over by Justice Mariama Owusu, a Justice of the Supreme Court sitting as a High Court judge.
The witnesses include residents of Denkyira Obuasi, where Major Mahama met his untimely death, police officers who investigated the case, colleagues of Major Mahama and the pathologist who conducted autopsy on the military officer.
After the prosecution brings its case to a close, the 14 accused persons will also mount their defence.
Not Guilty
Major Mahama was killed at Denkyira Obuasi in the Central Region on May 29, 2017, where he was on deployment to curb illegal mining, popularly known as galamsey.
He was said to have been lynched during a morning walk that led him to Denkyira Obuasi.
A video recording of how he was supposedly lynched went viral on various social media platforms.
Fourteen people, including William Baah, a former Assembly Member of Denkyira Obuasi, are standing trial in connection with the death of the military officer.
Others are Bernard Asamoah, alias Daddy; Kofi Nyarko, aka Abortion Akwasi Baah, Kwame Tuffour, Joseph Appiah Kubi and Michael Anim.
The rest are Bismark Donkor, John Bosie, Akwasi Baah, Charles Kwaning, Emmanuel Badu, Bismark Abanga and Kwadwo Anima.
They have all pleaded not guilty to charges ranging from murder, abetment to murder and conspiracy to commit murder.
