Senior Political Science Lecturer at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), Dr. Kwasi Amakye Boateng has stated that Ghanaians have a simple choice of vote in the December elections as Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia makes the difference in the selection of a President to lead the country.
In an interview on Kumasi-based Pure FM with Kwame Adinkrah, Dr. Amakye Boateng explained that the December 7 polls has got to do with the management of the economy and President Akufo-Addo has distinguished himself in that aspect with his unique pair with Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia under whom Ghana has experienced a sustained economic growth to the benefit of all.
He indicated that, ‘the Dr. Bawumia factor’ changes everything as it will be difficult for any Ghanaian to vote for any Presidential candidate when he or she does not have Dr. Bawumia as a running mate.
“Since 1983, governing Ghana under successive governments have been made easier because they all took Ghana to the IMF [International Monetary Fund] and in tend took directives from them on how to manage the country. How difficult would you say that is?
Since 1983, it is only Nana Addo who has successfully governed Ghana without the influence or manipulation of IMF. Although President Kufuor made a bold attempt to do so, it was not sustained hence, he cannot be credited like President Akufo-Addo has done”
We all saw what happened under President Mills and then Mahama. If governance is about going to the IMF then what would be the essence of a government. This exclusive thing changes everything. It changes the narrative completely.
So the choices Ghanaians have in the December polls, if you ask me, I will say we don’t really have a serious choice. It is a straight forward issue and everything has got to do with the management of the economy and that is why I’m saying Nana Addo has a unique pair with Dr. Bawumia who is also an economist. A very unique pair…The Dr. Bawumia factor changes everything. If you don’t have Bawumia as running mate, who will vote for you?” He quizzed on Pure FM.
