Opinion: My Take On Sarkodie’s Verse In Happy Day Featuring Kuami Eugene?

Africa’s most decorated rapper Sarkodie is in trolls today due to a line in his newly released track Happy Day featuring Kuami Eugene.

Permit me to take you back to his tracks Dumsor and inflation. These two tracks were released when the National Democratic Congress was in power.

Sarkodie is one celebrity who has had his take on political issues from day one, criticizing politicians through music. His dumsor track reflects on a lot of things when Ghana was experiencing the poor energy supply in the country. Take a listen.

Also, his inflation song called on the then government under John Dramani Mahama to do his best at a time the dollar to cedi ratio was rising at a high speed.

He even called on all citizens to stand to put the government on it’s toes, edging them to stop being affiliated to one political party in the above track. Listen to the inflation track below:

However, Sarkodie went mute on political issues in his songs after the ruling New Patriotic Party ( NPP ) took over power in 2016, obviously he’s happy about how things are unfolding under Nana Addo led NPP government: The policies and it’s implementations.

I can’t say Sarkodie has being biased in his address to political issues in recent years because as a Ghanaian, he must have considered and weighed Late Mills’ administration and that of John Mahama to release his two political songs: Dumsor and inflation. Songs which state his take against ‘bad’ rulership. He could have dropped those during Mills’ time as a president.

One may argue why he didn’t release those during Mills’ administration on none during this current administration? I will tempted again to say he is happy with how the country is being run.

Now, his line in the Happy Day song justifies my argument, he said: ‘When there was Dumsor and inflation, I talked about it. But today if the problem of Dumsor has been solved, and my children go to school for free, then l have nothing to say. Forgive me to say Nana continue’ .

Obviously, he is content with this government’s ruling than any other and he ( as a voting Ghanaian) just explained reasons of his choice. No hard feelings.

Note: My opinion.
