Gov’t Extends Free Water To The End December

Government has extended its free water supply package for all Ghanaians for another three months effective October 1, 2020.

A statement by the Ministry of Sanitation and Water Resources said the decision is part of additional measures to enable Ghanaians to adhere to hygiene protocols and mitigate the spread of the novel coronavirus.

“This is to enable Ghanaians continue with the protocols especially the washing of hands under running water, to help fight the Covid-19 pandemic,” the September 23 press release stated.

President Akufo- Addo during the lockdown in March reduced electricity tariffs by half and provided free potable water.

In June, he further extended free water supply for another three months to ease the burden of Ghanaians.

The Ministry of Sanitation and Water Resources cautioned all landlords and tanker service providers to refrain from charging or selling water to consumers since the government is paying for service.

The ministry also advised Ghanaians to “use the water judiciously in the observance of the protocols,” as outlined till December 31, 2020.
